Three of the boys’ parish basketball squads took part in some holiday tournament action over the past week, with some mixed results.
In the Sunkist Shootout, held at St. Thomas More High School, the Sacred Heart Trojans and the Ville Platte Bulldogs both had a tough time at picking up a win.
In three tries, the Trojans fell to the host team, St. Thomas More (73-43), Teurlings Catholic (59-45) and Lafayette Christian (34-32). With those three loses in the tournament, Sacred Heart fell to 5-8 on the season. The Trojans are scheduled to play Opelousas Catholic away tomorrow night.
A bad second quarter allowed the Southside Sharks to ease past Ville Platte High 53-49 in a very close contest. The tournament loss dropped the Bulldogs to 9-5 on the season. Ville Platte is set to take on Avoyelles Public Charter tomorrow night.
Finally, the Mamou Demons collected another win in the Brad Fontenot Memorial Tournament held at St. Edmund High School, when they defeated Northside Christian 60-49. The Demons were 2-1 in the tournament and improved their record to 5-11 with the victory over the Warriors.
Mamou is scheduled to host Port Barre tomorrow night.

Sacred Heart vs.
St. Thomas More
The Cougars jumped out to a 14-9 lead after one quarter of play and took a 32-21 lead into the locker room. St. Thomas More continued to open up their advantage, especially in the fourth quarter, where they outscored Sacred Heart 24-11.
Teurlings vs.
Sacred Heart
A 22-11 advantage for the Teurlings Rebels in the first quarter set the stage for the rest of the game. Sacred Heart out gunned Teurlings 13-11 in the final period, but it was too little too late.
Sacred Heart vs.
Lafayette Christian
In a very close game, Sacred Heart trailed 22-15 at the half, but held on, outpacing LCA 7-2 in the final quarter to only lose by two points in the final seconds of the contest.
Southside vs.
Ville Platte
An 18-12 advantage by Southside in the second quarter is what did in Ville Platte, as they could never recover, despite a 15-12 edge in the final period.
Mamou vs.
Northside Christian
Mamou overcame a one-point disadvantage after the first quarter to pour in double digits the rest of the way and take home the second of three tournament games.
