Darelzray “Dezzy” Bellard is a native of Mamou and has played in 82 games during her Ladies’ career at Centenary College in Shreveport.
She has scored in double figures 11 times in her career including a single-game career 18 points during her sophomore season. Last season, she scored a season-high 17 points at Trinity in just 20 minutes of action as she made six of eight shots overall and nailed four of six three-point attempts. Her 84 career three-point field baskets made ranks sixth in program history and, she currently ranks 13th in the SCAC in three-point field Goal percentage.
Here is what Coach Jason Schmitz had to say about his senior from Mamou:
“Whether shooting from deep or doing the little things the program has needed the past three seasons, Dezzy’s contributions were valuable.”
“Not only will she finish her time as one of the most prolific three-point shooters, currently 6th in career makes in program history, but she was also one of the first to volunteer to meet with recruits when they came to campus. My most memorable moment of her is last season at Trinity. She kept us in the game by making five threes including one that led me to scratch my head and question loudly as she pulled it from what I believe was 28-feet away. Of course, in classic Dezzy fashion, she drilled it, and I couldn’t do anything but laugh about it afterward. She has seen a variety of roles over her time with me, and, whether she was playing the point or the wing, she embraced it. Her constant buy-in and willingness to adapt during her time here is something I cannot emphasize enough. I’m thankful for her many contributions to the program and cannot wait to see what the future holds for her.”
Bellard is a business management major at Centenary and was a member of the Lady Demon basketball team that defeated the top seeded Rapides Lady Mustangs to reach the state semifinals in 2017.
