Ville Platte High could not fight off some early miscues, leading to an insurmountable lead for the Opelousas Tigers as the Bulldogs tumbled on the road in a 63-48 non-district loss.
Ville Platte falls to 3-1 on the season with the loss. The Bulldogs travel to Lafayette to take on David Thibodeaux tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The beginning of Monday night’s contest was not a good one for Ville Platte. Utilizing a stifling defense, Opelousas created some early turnovers that allowed the Tigers to take a 10-0 lead just two and a half minutes into the game.
The Bulldogs worked their way back to cut the advantage down to seven, 14-7, when the horn sounded to end the period.
Ville Platte attempted to cut into the Tiger lead in the second quarter, but only found themselves deeper in the hole as Opelousas took a 29-19 advantage into the locker room.
The Bulldogs came out in the third quarter like a different ball club. After the Tigers upped their lead to 40-23, Ville Platte charged back with a 14-5 run the rest of the period to cut the Opelousas lead down to eight.
However, the fourth quarter belonged to the Tigers. Even with the continuing effort of the Bulldogs, the size and athleticism of Opelousas was just too much.
Tye’wuan Byers had 13 points to lead the Bulldogs while Montavis Serialle added 12 points in the loss.
