Ville Platte’s struggles to open District 5-3A play continues Tuesday afternoon, falling 14-0 to the Church Point Bears in five innings.
The Bulldogs (5-4, 0-3) were no-hit by Church Point starter Morgan Carriere and gave up 14 hits to Church Point in a game where Ville Platte struggled to find its bearings.
Church Point (8-11, 3-2) was able to get to Ville Platte starting pitcher Bastian Veillion early in a four-run first inning that was spearheaded by an Andy Briceno RBI single followed by a Carriere RBI single.
After going three-up, three-down in the bottom of the first, Ville Platte opened the floodgates for Church Point in a nine-run second inning that put the game out of reach.
The Bears plated those runs without a single extra-base hit in the frame and chased Veillion from the game in favor of Leslie Foreman.
Foreman fared much better against the Church Point lineup from then on, throwing 2.1 innings of shutout baseball. However, the damage had already been done and the Bulldogs struggled at the plate, striking out 10 times in the five-inning contest.
Ville Platte was in action twice more this week, making the return trip to Church Point in a 6 p.m. start on Wednesday and traveling to Pine Prairie on Thursday for another 5-3A district game.
Those scores were not available as of Thursday’s press deadline.
