The baseball edition of the Tee Cotton Bowl rivalry between Sacred Heart and Ville Platte took place last Saturday, with the Trojans handily defeating Ville Platte 12-0 in five innings.
Sacred Heart rode five-run showings in the second and third innings to spring it to victory. Two pitchers, Zeph Arnold and Ethan Fontenot, combined on a one-hit, nine-strikeout shutout for the Trojans.
At the plate, Gabe Wilmouth led Sacred Heart. He went 3-for-3 with four RBIs.
That big win was a highlight of a 2-1 week for the Trojans, now 14-9 overall. The defeated Central Catholic 8-4 on Friday and competed well against 4A Beau Chene on Monday, losing 4-2.
Mamou
The Green Demons struggled through the week, losing a pair of games to Church Point in District 5-3A play.
Mamou, currently 6-15 overall, dropped last Thursday’s 12-3 matchup to Church Point and lost 11-4 to the Bears on Monday.
Seven errors set the Green Demons back immensely in the Thursday matchup, despite pounding out 11 hits. Jerez Edwards and A.J. Arvie shared the top-hitter honors for Mamou in that game, each going 2-for-4.
In the Monday rematch, the Green Demons didn’t fare much better. Again, Mamou committed seven errors and this time has less success at the plate with only two hits.
Edwards again led Mamou in hitting, going 2-for-3 and scoring a run and driving in one run in that contest.
Pine Prairie
The Panthers continue to have success on the diamond. They went 2-0 in the past week, defeating Ville Platte 5-0 on Thursday and beating Bunkie 8-7 on Friday.
Branson Fontenot did the heavy lifting on pitching for Pine Prairie, going six innings in the shutout of Ville Platte. He allowed only two hits and struck out six Bulldog hitters.
At the plate, Tyler Fell led the Panthers in going 2-for-2 at the plate.
In the Friday contest, Pine Prairie grabbed a big win over a very successful Bunkie team. The Panthers overcame a four-run first inning by Bunkie by plating three runs in the third and 3 runs in the fifth inning to take the lead.
Catcher Colin Ardoin went 2-for-3 in the game, driving in three runs and pounding a triple.
