Pine Prairie softball swept the major honors in the District 5-3A all-district team that was released on Wednesday.
Senior outfield Asia George was selected as the District MVP after dominating the district at the plate and coach Alycia Hebert was named as the Coach of the Year.
“I’ve always been told that things turn out best for those who make the best of the the way things turned out and that’s just what I did,” Hebert said. “After a very rough start to our season though quarantine and rain outs, we were in for a bumpy road. But, instead of letting it take us down we took it head on.”
George was dynamic in district play and in leading the Lady Panthers to the second round of the Class 3A playoffs. The senior ended the season with a .589 batting average, but upped her game in district play in hitting .655 with three home runs, 11 RBI and six stolen bases in district play.
“Asia stepped it up at the plate and left it all on the field,” Hebert said. “She deserves this District MVP award. She’s been a leader and never let me down when I needed her.”
Several of George’s Pine Prairie teammates joined her on the first-team.
Freshman Ava Kordish and senior Brianna Wall, an LSUE commitment, were named to the first-team as pitchers. Kordish didn’t allow a run and was undefeated in the circle during district play while Wall went 3-1 with a 3.25 earned run average. They were joined in representing Pine Prairie on the first team by catcher Maycie Hardy (.401 BA), second baseman Kaitlyn Fontenot (.292 BA), George and utility Abby Arnaud (.476 BA).
Mamou had three representatives on the first team: junior first baseman Tierane Thomas (.406 BA), junior utility Taylor Douget (.583 BA) and junior utility Kylie Rider (.371 BA).
On the second team, Mamou’s Jennifer Doucet (3-1, 3.78 ERA) makes the team in the circle, as does Ville Platte’s Hannah Monier.
Pine Prairie’s Alaina Boutte is the second team first baseman, and is joined by Pine Prairie freshman Katherine Olsen at second base, Mamou’s Kenderly Doucet at third, Mamou’s Kelsie Landreneau at the outfield with Mamou eighth-grader Jaiden Richard making the team as a utility player along with Pine Prairie’s Ashlyn Robertson.
Honorable mentions are Mamou’s Sara Dupre, Ville Platte’s Kaitlyn Bias, Mamou’s Olivia Bruney, Pine Prairie’s Cameron Willis, Mamou’s Carlee Berzas, Pine Prairie’s Aubrey Fuselier and Mamou’s Madison Fontenot.
