For what is considered the first time ever, three teams from Evangeline Parish are headed to a Dixie Youth State Tournament as the 8U Coach Pitch All-Star teams from Ville Platte, Mamou, and Pine Prairie qualified for state. The tournament begins today in Monroe with Ville Platte playing Jackson Parish at 5:15 p.m. in pool play. Bracket play begins Saturday, July 16, at 9 a.m., and the championship game is scheduled for Sunday, July 17, at 7 p.m. Before leaving for the tournament, the teams from Ville Platte and Pine Prairie gathered at the Ville Platte/Evangeline Parish Recreational Complex for a picture to commemorate the occasion. Ville Platte coaches are Trey LaFleur, Gavin Latour, Rodney Hebert, and Chris Bradley, and players are Davon Tezeno, Jack Fontenot, Carter Lafleur, Austin Ardoin, Cooper Lafleur, Ryland Prudhomme, Eliot Fontenot, Cam Latour, William Hebert, Levy Duos, Chris Bradley, and Andrew Bischoff. Pine Prairie coaches are Travis Lamke, Ariel Pellerin, Tim Pierce, and Korin Guillory, and players are Matthew Fontenot, Cain Guillory, Justin Delafosse, Cullen Marcantel, Noah Guillot, Gabe Sanchez, Evan Lamke, Braidyn Fontenot, Jon Bordelon, Lawson Pellerin, Leeum Deshotel, and Dyson Taylor.
