New Flag is raised at Swamp Pop Museum

The tattered flag at the Swamp Pop Museum was replaced on Thursday, February 24, prior to the Swamp Pop Reunion planned for Monday evening, February 28. Woodmen of the World graciously donated the new flag, and VVA chapter #632 agreed to dedicate and raise the new flag during the ceremony. Museum Curator Sharon Fontenot said replacing the flag had been on her list and was very appreciative to the WOW and VVA. She was also very appreciate for the hard work Dr. Gwen Fontenot, Renee Brown and Connie and Chris Lamke did in sprucing up the location to get it ready to host the annual Swamp Pop Reunion. She said, “The music is still alive and here, and it is an honor to preserve it and pass it on to future generations.” VVA President J.D. Soileau said no flag should be disrespected, and the old flag will be properly retired at a special ceremony to be held sometime in November.
