Louisiana Cotton Festival is underway

The 69th Louisiana Cotton Festival kicked off on Monday with the 4-H Cotton Food Fest and Cotton Pickin Pet Show at the Northside Civic Center. In the top left photo is Georgiana LaHaye who won grand champion in the Medium/Large Dog Best Costumed Pair contest with her dog Honeybee. The following night, on Tuesday, featured Le Contradanse and the annual crowning of Le Roi et La Reine of Heritage Manor. Mack Blood, 81 years old, of Lone Pine, was crowned Le Roi. He has been living at Heritage Manor for 15 months. He has two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He served his country as a master sergeant in the United States Air Force and is interested in outdoors, community outings, bingo, and socializing. Crowned La Reine was Lee Anna Fontenot, an 84-year-old native of Plaisance. She has been residing at Heritage Manor for three and a half years. She has two children, four grandchildren (two deceased), and six great-grandchildren. She worked in a potato cannery and at Jack Miller’s Kitchen. She enjoys camping, dancing, crafts, religious services, games, parties, socializing, and being a member of the Ladies Red Hat Social Club. First Runners-Up were Clanis Freeman and Gertrude Fontenot. In the top right photo, Cotton Festival President Kelli Buller (right) crowns Fontenot (center). Blood is pictured on the left. Tuesday night also saw a performance of the Contradanse dancers led by Robbie and Melanie Soileau. The dancers are pictured in the bottom left photo as they perform a traditional Cajun dance.
