The Evangeline Parish Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation Committee hosted its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Celebration on Monday, January 16, at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Ville Platte. The theme of the event was “Honoring the Legacy; Honoring the Dream.” Serving as master of ceremony was Reverend Jermaine Tezeno, and the day featured Scripture readings and prayers from Reverend Lawrence Dick, Reverend Jessie Doulet, Reverend Terryl Jackson, Deacon Yves Wilson, Reverend Steven Sawtelle, and Father Mitch Guidry. Sister Carleen Bellard provided musical selections, and Reverend Johnny Thomas recited the “I Have a Dream” speech. After closing remarks from Reverend Darwan Lazard and Reverend Matthew Alfred, a balloon release was held, which is pictured in the top photograph. The day also featured a parade that ended at the center. Pictured in the bottom left photograph are riders as they participate in the parade. (Gazette photos by Tony Marks)
