The Evangeline Parish School Board has issued the following statement regarding last night’s shooting outside Ville Platte High.
We are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting that occurred near the Ville Platte High School campus last night. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking event and with our entire community.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to our school administrators, faculty, staff, law enforcement officers, first responders, and the many parents and community members who stepped forward to assist. In a frightening and uncertain situation, so many individuals demonstrated courage, quick thinking, and genuine concern for the safety of others. Their efforts to help evacuate the campus and ensure the safety of our students and families are deeply appreciated.
We are also saddened that such a tragic event disrupted what should have been a joyful Homecoming celebration for our students, families, and community.
While we wish the evening had ended differently, I am incredibly grateful for the compassion, cooperation, and selflessness demonstrated by so many.
Thank you to everyone who helped protect and care for others during such a difficult time. Your actions are a powerful reminder of the strength of our community.
