Annual French meeting is held

Sounds of Cajun and Creole culture rang through the Evangeline Parish Courthouse, on Wednesday, December 17, as the Evangeline Parish Police Jury held its annual French meeting. Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court Randy Deshotel led the invocation in French, and French Immersion students from Ville Platte Elementary and Mamou Elementary led the Pledge of Allegiance in French and performed several French Christmas carols. Elected officials and other special guests were then introduced before Mamou Councilman Eugene Manuel and Winky and Chicken Aucoin, with Prairie Heritage Inc., addressed the jury. In other business, the jury approved the holiday schedule for 2026 and approved the re-appointment of Gregory Monier to a two-year term on the Mamou Fire Protection District No. 1 Board.
