Ville Platte Chief of Police Al Perry Thomas reported detectives from his department began an active homicide investigation on August 29, 2023.
During the course of the investigation, five male subjects were identified as suspects in relation to the disappearance and murder of Vonshonskee “Shonskee” Charles. One of the suspects, Shawn L. Thomas (DOB: December 9, 1995) turned himself into the Ville Platte Police Department on September 5, for an arrest warrant alleging that he was in violation of second degree murder/ accessories after the fact. Thomas currently has a bond set at $252,000.00.
On September 6, a second suspect, Jared Lee Delvon Freeman (DOB: July 2, 1992) was apprehended in Los Angeles, Calif., for an arrest warrant alleging that he was in violation of second degree murder and is currently awaiting extradition. Freeman currently has a bond set at $5 million.
Chief Thomas complimented the efforts of Detective Sergeant Darrian Guillory for her efforts in the matter.
