A Kia Borrego, on Wednesday, April 19, crossed the center line of Hwy 29, near the intersection of Angus Road, and collided with a school bus. The crash occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. with approximately 20 children on the school bus. According to reports, one of the children was taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Two adults and three children were inside the SUV, and all of the occupants were taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Restraint use was not known as of press time on Friday, but child seats were removed from the SUV prior to the arrival of Louisiana State Police. State Police is investigating the cause of the crash, and charges against the driver are pending. Among those responding to the incident were the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, Ville Platte City Marshal’s Office, State Police, Ville Platte Fire Department, Evangeline Parish Fire District #2, Acadian Ambulance, and First Student. Also on the scene were Superintendent Darwan Lazard, Supervisor Johnny Deshotel, School Board Member Fannie Soileau, and Ville Platte Mayor Ryan Leday Williams.
