Mary Germaine Ardoin Fusilier, 80, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of Wednesday, October 6, 2021, surrounded by her children. Services will be held at Our Lady, Queen of All Saints Church in Ville Platte on Saturday, October 16, with visitation from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

ST LANDRY – Funeral services were held at a 12 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in St. Landry for Margaret Yvonne Soileau, 83, who passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

LSUE names Dr. Vidrine as Professor Emeritius

EUNICE – Dr. Malcom Vidrine has been awarded the honorary title of Professor Emeritus, it was announced on Wednesday. Dr. Vidrine has served in an academic role at LSU Eunice for 37 years.

VILLE PLATTE - Funeral services for Kim Leger, 47, were held at 11 a.m. on October 12, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Kim, a resident of Ville Platte, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021, at her residence. Father Tom Voorhies officiated the funeral Mass.

Lt. Gov. Nungesser to reign as Swine Festival King

The Louisiana Swine Festival Association is pleased to announce that Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser has accepted the invitation to reign as king of the 2021 La. Swine Festival here in Basile.

La. Swine Festival seeking talent show and pork cook-off contestants

There are many activities that make up the annual Louisiana Swine Festival held in Basile every first weekend of November. Several of those activities are competitions such as the pig chase, the boudin eating contest, the hog calling contest, the talent show, and the pork cook off.

Quarantine bug again hits Bulldogs

The Ville Platte High football team was informed on Monday that it must quarantine for two weeks due to a pair of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases within its program. It is the third such instance for the program this season, one that has been full of twists and turns for the winless Bulldogs.

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following recent bookings into the parish jail. Arrested were the following persons: • Harley Ann Fontenot, 18, Ville Platte, was arrested on October 9, 2021, by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Alleged growth and cultivation of marijuana lead to arrests

Sheriff Charles R. Guillory, of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office releases the following: On the 5 th of October 2021 the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Departments Narcotics and Patrol Division executed a search warrant on residence located at 3197 US HWY 167 north.

Parish is set to receive funds in opioid settlement

A multi-million dollar settlement between the State of Louisiana and the nation’s largest distributors of opioids has been announced and Evangeline Parish and other parishes will benefit from the settlement.
