The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following recent bookings into the parish jail. Arrested were the following persons: • Jana H. Faul, 49, Ville Platte, was arrested on October 9, 2021, by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office for two counts of failure to appear for court.

Ville Platte is the home of the fall festival known as the Louisiana Cotton Festival and Le Tournoi de la Ville Platte, held each year in October. The World War II veterans are credited with starting the festival as part of their July 4th, celebration in 1952.

The Louisiana Cotton Festival’s Grand Parade of Cotton has been scheduled for 12 noon Sunday, October 24. Lineup will begin at 10:30 a.m. Registration for the parade is at city hall in Ville Platte with Katherine.

Fire ravages Ville Platte business

A business located at 1002 W. Lincoln Rd. in Ville Platte sustained heavy loss over the late night hours of Monday, October 11. Six units and 31 firefighters from the Ville Platte and Evangeline Parish Fire District #2 responded to the structure fire within three minutes after dispatch.

High electric bills from Cleco were the big topic of discussion at the Tuesday, October 12 meeting of the Ville Platte City Council. For some time, some residents have been complaining about a drastic increase in utility charges from the company, leading to protests outside the Cleco office.
