School board meets the teachers of the year

The district’s teachers of the year were recognized at the Evangeline Parish School Board meeting held Wednesday, December 8. Teacher of the Year Coordinator Grace Sibley commented, “Our teachers are showing they have the knowledge and the heart to teach.

Mamou council approves new districts

Mike Hefner, at the December 8, meeting of the Mamou Town Council, addressed the reapportionment of the election districts after the results of the 2020 census. Hefner stated the council had two options and they, as well as himself, preferred plan one. As a result, plan two was not discussed.

Candidate announcement

Staff Report Craig Whittington has announced his election bid for Evangeline Parish School Board member in District 5. In his announcement, Whittington said the following: I am taking this opportunity to formally announce my candidacy for District 5 school board member.

BATON ROUGE – Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Saturday, December 11, 2021, for Gary Wayne Fontenot, 54, who passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, in Baton Rouge. Deacon Chuck Ortego conducted the funeral services.

Cameras in special education classrooms to be studied

Following a state law passed earlier this year that allows parents to request cameras to be placed in special education classrooms, the policy committee of the Evangeline Parish School Board voted to study the issue and bring it back before the full board at a later time.

VILLE PLATTE - On Monday, December 6, 2021, Wilda Mae Pitre Veillon, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at age 93. Services for Mrs. Veillon will be held today, December 9, at Sacred Heart Church at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
