Change in village police chief qualification requirements

During the 2022 Regular Session, the Legislature passed Act 212, which changes the minimum qualifications for an elected chief of police in a village that is chartered under the Lawrason Act. The amended law (La. R.S. 33:385.

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following recent bookings into the parish jail. Arrested were the following persons: • Makayla Monae Trout Lejeune, 38, Basile, was arrested July 21, 2022, by the Basile Police Department for access device fraud.

ATV theft remains under investigation

On April 23, 2022, Deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 1000 Blk. of Gas St. in reference to a theft of a 1995 Green Honda ATV. The ATV was described as being two wheel drive with a front flat tire and custom fenders with mud flaps.
