Inmate is found hanged in city jail

By: TONY MARKS Editor An inmate, identified as 25-year-old Jeremy Ben, was found dead in the Ville Platte City Jail at around 5:47 p.m. on Monday, August 7. Ville Platte Chief of Police Al Perry Thomas confirmed the cause of death was a suicide.

Funeral services for Barry Giglio were held Wednesday, August 9, at 12 noon, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse. Visitation preceded the funeral at the church and began at 9 a.m., and burial followed at Lakelawn Cemetery in Metairie.

Burn ban is issued

Evangeline Parish Police Jury President Bryan Vidrine, as a result of the current weather conditions, has ordered a parish wide burn ban on all private burnings in the parish, including all municipalities. The ban includes anything with an open flame that produces ember.

Crime in city is discussed

By: NANCY DUPLECHAIN Staff Reporter Olivia Gasper, mother of 24-year-old shooting victim Treyvon Gallow, pleaded with the Ville Platte City Council to find a way to get more help for the police department. Gallow lost his life in late July when he was shot at the Parkview apartment complex.

Elaine Marie Camel Frazier, 83, passed away August 5, 2023, in Conway, Ark. She was born August 4, 1940, in Cankton to Velma Mae Savoie and Leopold Camel. She and her siblings were raised in Ville Platte. There will be a private graveside service in Conway, Ark.
