Giglio is laid to rest

Funeral services for Barry Giglio were held Wednesday, August 9, at 12 noon, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse. Visitation preceded the funeral at the church and began at 9 a.m., and burial followed at Lakelawn Cemetery in Metairie.
Giglio passed away on Monday, July 31, at the age of 64.
According to his obituary, Giglio was a graduate of West Jeff High School. He worked for Brown and Root for many years. After leaving Brown and Root, he owned a jewelry, florist, and catering company in Buras. Following Hurricane Katrina, he relocated to Ville Platte, where he owned The Pig Stand restaurant. In 2013, he joined the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he worked for many years before he moved on to the Ville Platte City Marshal’s as a lieutenant. While in business and working as a police officer, he volunteered for charitable events and was recognized with many honors. He was known by many to be generous and kind. Giglio was an avid outdoorsman and a great cook and loved spending time with family and friends. He paid the ultimate sacrifice and gave his life serving his community. He will be deeply missed by all.
He was the beloved father of Joseph Giglio (Stephanie); grandfather of Olivia and Emily Giglio; son of the late Marjorie Brien Giglio and Louis Giglio Sr.; brother of Michael Giglio Sr. (Kim), Gail G. LaRocca (Gerald), Brian Giglio, and the late Louis Giglio Jr.; uncle of Gina McCarthy (Joe), Anthony Giglio, Cristina Giglio, Andrew Giglio (Allison), Dominic LaRocca, and the late Michael Giglio Jr.; special nephew of Bonnie Caro and Daniel Brien; cousin of Susan D. Gowland; and fiancé of Pat Ortego. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Giglio, according to reports, was accompanying a team of deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office as they were executing a search warrant. As the deputies were entering the residence, Vonteeko Anderson began shooting at the officer, and two officers returned fire. During the shootout, Deputy Giglio was shot and killed.
Anderson was arrested the following day and charged with was charged with possession of a firearm with certain CDS offenses or while committing a crime of violence and felony possession of marijuana. His charges were later upgraded to include first degree murder.
