Clement assigned as pastor at Annunciation

DURALDE - Bishop Douglas Deshotel recently announced that Reverend D. Blaine Clement has been appointed as Pastor of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Duralde for a period of six years as of July 5, 2021. This is in addition to his current assignment at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Chataignier.

Jazzin’ up the joint!

If you’re out and about and suddenly find yourself hungry for beignets, it might be because you’ve encountered the new sound hitting the parish. The Evangeline Parish Jazz Ensemble, which began in 2020 but was put on hold for a year because of the pandemic, has begun performing the Crescent City sound. The ensemble was created by Clinton Jones, Jimi Bergeron, and John Havard, and features students from several schools in Evangeline Parish.

Pentecost walkers make annual march through Basile

For 47 years now, the Cursillo Retreat Center in Prairie Rhonde has been hosting a men’s weekend retreat on Pentecost weekend. As an act of penance and prayer for the success of the retreat, men who have previously made the retreat start walking to the center from seven different cities in the state. All of the groups converge in Mallet before proceeding together to the center’s chapel for the retreat’s closing Mass.

Changes are on the horizon for Evangeline Head Start

The Evangeline Head Start program is usually funded with a federal grant awarded to the Evangeline Community Action Agency (ECAA). Every five years, the ECAA applies for the $1.8 million grant to operate Head Start. Recently, ECAA was informed that Washington, D.C. went with the international organization Save the Children to receive the grant, meaning ECAA will no longer be the umbrella for Head Start.

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following recent bookings into the parish jail. Arrested were the following persons: • Kira Lynn Ogonowski, 36, Mamou, was arrested on May 25, 2021, by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear for court.
