Officers with the Turkey Creek Police Department recently arrested two separate individuals on gun charges and responded to a call of a Breaux Bridge resident driving through the village while intoxicated.
Officers, on July 6, at 11:11 p.m., conducted a traffic stop on U.S Highway 167 for crossing the center line and over-correcting. Upon making contact with the driver, Cyrus Owens, it was learned he was driving with a suspended license.
During the field interview, officers observed the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Owens admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle earlier and stated he may be in possession of a small amount as well as a firearm.
After a complete search of the vehicle, officers located a black Taurus handgun under the passenger seat and a bag containing marijuana. Two scales were also located in the center console of the car.
Owens was cited for the traffic violations and booked in the Evangeline Parish Jail for possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additional charges are pending a chemical analysis from the Acadiana Crime Lab.
The following day, on July 7, a warrant for the arrest of Brandon Rea was executed for possession of firearm by a convicted felon. The incident occurred on March 23, 2020, during a traffic violation and report of a suspicious person in the Turkey Creek limits.
During the field interview, it was learned Rea was a convicted felon. Officers with Turkey Creek Police Department located several firearms within the vehicle, in plain view. The warrant was executed without incident
The driving while intoxicated arrest occurred on July 8, when officers conducted a traffic stop on LA Hwy 13 for an equipment violation.
During the field interview with the driver, Mark Lamson Jr, it was discovered the vehicle had switched plates and was uninsured.
Officers noticed the odor of marijuana coming for the vehicle and conducted a search where they located marijuana and a smoking pipe.
During the field interview, officers observed the driver to have slurred speech and the smell of alcohol coming from his breath. Several open containers were also located in the vehicle. State Police conducted sobriety test where Lamson tested 0.108 BAC for alcohol. Mark Lamson Jr was booked in the Evangeline Parish Jail for DUI, Possession of Schedule I CDS, and possession of drugs in a drug free zone.
