On 01-22-2021 officers with the Turkey Creek Police Department
conducted a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation on a white in color
Nissan Altima. The driver later identified as Billy Byrd of Ville Platte was
acting extremely nervous with officers when being questioned about
the traffic incident. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle and
a pat down was conducted on the driver. The driver became even more
nervous and tried to put his hand in the front of his jacket pocket while
the frisk was being conducted. Officers located presumed Crystal Meth
on Mr. Byrd’s person in violation of L.A.R.S. 40:967 Mr. Byrd was then
detained for further investigation and a search of the vehicle was
conducted. After a thorough search of the vehicle one handgun was
located in violation of L.A.R.S 14:95 and other narcotics were located in
violation of L.A.R.S. 40:969. Mr. Byrd was also in a drug free zone which
enhances the penalties for the narcotics. Mr. Byrd was booked into the
Evangeline Parish Jail on the above charges without incident.
On 02-01-2021 Officers with the Turkey Creek Police Department
conducted a traffic stop on a silver in color Jaguar for a minor vehicle
violation. Upon approach to the vehicle officers asked the driver
identified as Dexter Mayes of Ville Platte for his driver’s license to
which he couldn’t produce one. Once obtaining his information and a
records check was done by central dispatch, it was learned that Mr.
Mayes had an outstanding confirmed warrant through the Department
Of Homeland Security for distribution of Methamphetamine. After Mr.
Mayes was placed in handcuffs a search incident to arrest of the vehicle
was conducted. Located in the center console of the vehicle was
presumed Marijuana to which Mr. Mayes admitted it was his. Mr.
Mayes was also in a drug free zone with the presumed narcotics which
enhances the penalties of the narcotics. Mr. Mayes was then
transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail where he was held for the
Department of Homeland Security and also charges with the narcotic
charges.
On 02-02-2021 Officers with the Turkey Creek Police Department
conducted a traffic stop for a minor vehicle violation on a Chevrolet
pickup truck. Upon contact with the driver a Mr. Jason Clark of Pine
Prairie was asked for his driver’s license and then advised of the traffic
infraction. While writing the citation Mr. Clark openly admitted to
having presumed Marijuana in his possession. Mr. Clark was placed in
handcuffs and the presumed Marijuana was recovered from his person.
An open air sniff was also conducted on the vehicle with K9 Tolkien of
the Turkey Creek Police Department. After a positive K9 alert a
thorough search of the vehicle was conducted and presumed crystal
meth was located in Mr. Clark’s wallet on the passenger side seat. Mr.
Clark was transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail for booking.
