Mamou Drive-By Shooting Investigation and Arrest

An investigation of a drive by shooting, by the Mamou Police Department, lead to the arrest of Malik Rashawnski Moton, 21, of 404 MLK Mamou and the hospitalization of Jamien Williams, 24, of 1067 Shorty Lane, Mamou. In the early morning hours of Monday, October 2, 2023, the Mamou Police Department received several calls about shots fired around the 500 block of East Street. As a result of an investigation of the incident, it was discovered that Malik Moton, while driving down East Street, spotted the victim, Jamien Williams standing on the roadside in front of a residence on the 500 block of East Street. From the driver side window of the vehicle, Malik opened fire with a handgun striking Jamien twice in the shoulder. A warrant was obtained and Malik Moton was arrested later that evening by the Mamou Police Department. An interview with Malik was conducted incident to the arrest where Malik confessed to the shooting. The weapon used in the shooting was also surrendered to the Mamou Police department by Malik. Malik Moton was charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder and is being held on a 500,000-dollar bond. Jamien Williams was treated at Lafayette General for his injuries and released later that day.
