Fatal shooting is reported in Ville Platte near corner of Jackson and Chataignier

By: TONY MARKS Editor Ville Platte Police Chief Al Perry Thomas confirmed a fatal shooting in the city that claimed the life of 28-year-old Andrew Thomas. The shooting occurred on the morning of Thursday, March 7, near the intersection of North Chataignier Street and East Jackson Street. According to reports, he was previously shot at the intersection of Young Street and Martin Luther King Street on January 31. A witness at the scene said he was standing by a residence near the scene looking at some turtles at the time of the incident. He said he just left where the shooting took place. “It could have been me,” he said. The witness said he saw Thomas walk down the street when the suspect, wearing a black hood and mask, approached and shot seven times. The witness then observed the suspect run in an easterly direction toward LaTour Street. “He just jumped the fence and took off,” the witness said. The investigation is ongoing, and no other details were released by the Ville Platte Police Department.
