Deputy resigns amid investigation

By: TONY MARKS Editor Deputy Joshua Lafleur resigned from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office amid a Louisiana State Police investigation into alleged inmate abuse. The investigation began after a video surfaced where a deputy was seen abusing inmates in the parish jail. According to reports, inmates can be seen as they are slapped, slammed on a desk, choked, and maced. Sheriff Charles Guillory, at the time the investigation began, stated, “State police came to me a few days ago and showed me the video briefly saying they were investigating one of my officers.” He further said the alleged incidents took place prior to him taking office in July of 2020. “But since that time that I’ve been made aware, that particular officer has been suspended without pay,” Sheriff Guillory said.
