Citation is issued after ATV fire in Ward 5

By: TONY MARKS Editor An alleged trespasser was issued a citation after over three acres of woodland burned on Cemetery Road near Red Roberts in Ward 5 on Sunday, September 10, at approximately 11:24 a.m. According to reports, the suspect was operating an ATV on property without permission of the property owner. The suspect was also operating the ATV in a section of the woods with a heavy fuel load on the forest floor. At some point, the ATV caught on fire and set the woods on fire as well. Responding to the fire were the Ward 5 Fire Protection District, Turkey Creek Police Department, Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, La. Department of Agriculture and Forestry, and State Fire Marshal.
