Football All-Academic team is named

Staff Report The LHSAA All-Academic Award Program recognizes the academic excellence of senior student-athletes who have attained a 3.5 grade point average or higher by placing them on the Composite All-Academic Team or Class All-Academic Team.

PLAINVIEW - Despite having six players out, including three starters, the Hustlin’ Hornets of Plainview gave the Trojans of Sacred Heart a challenge Tuesday night until an 11-point performance from Austin Darbonne in the fourth quarter propelled the team in blue and gold to a 76-44 win.

Shiver drives Sacred Heart to win over O.C.

VILLE PLATTE – Whatever the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans needed Friday night, Kali Shiver was there to provide. Whether it was defense, running the offense, a crisp pass or a basket, Shiver was the driving point in Sacred Heart’s 54-33 blowout of Opelousas Catholic last Friday night.

Inaugural powerlifting tri-meet is held at Sacred Heart

VILLE PLATTE – By the time the talcum clouds cleared on Jan. 8 in the inaugural version of Sacred Heart Powerlifting Tri-Meet, it had to be considered successful on many levels. Three teams – Mamou, Parkview Baptist and the hosting Sacred Heart – participated, and many Trojan lifters placed.

LHSAA issues new guidance based on COVID recommendations

Transfer from Benton does not derail Hood’s success at Sacred Heart

VILLE PLATTE - Life changed the second senior Caleb Hood stepped on to Sacred Heart’s campus as a transfer from Class 5A Benton. As he described it, the people were a little warmer, the life a little slower. The memories, a lot bigger. “It’s a completely different world around here,” Hood said.

McCoy uses father’s experiences to repeat as defensive player of the year

BASILE - The Ville Platte Gazette Evangeline Parish Defensive MVP, Basile senior linebacker Baylor McCoy, is a coach’s son in every sense of the word. His dad, Bryan McCoy, coaches the defensive unit for the Bearcats.

Reigning supreme

Sacred Heart’s Caleb Hood was a busy man throughout the year. Whether he was sharing the backfield with Blake Hebert of snaps with Ethan Karonika, Hood found a way to make the Trojans’ offense better.
