VPHS finds success heading into final weeks

VILLE PLATTE – With the playoffs fast approaching, Ville Platte basketball had work to do. The programs, both currently in position to host home basketball games in the Class 3A playoffs, were able to bring home winning weeks.

Ethan Karonika had to split time with Sacred Heart teammate Caleb Hood during his senior football season. The 6-1, 190-pound quarterback ultimately didn’t put up the sort of season that may have been expected before his senior year began.

LHSAA to expand Division IV football playoffs

BATON ROUGE – Things can always change on a yearly basis at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association annual convention. Perhaps the ones with the most lasting effects for Evangeline Parish schools both passed.

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor OPELOUSAS – For three quarters, all was well for the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans against Opelousas Catholic. Sacred Heart took a 37-25 lead into the fourth quarter and stretched it out to as many as 16 points to take a 41-25 lead.

VILLE PLATTE – Friday night, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs proved it could go tit-for-tat with the Iota Lady Bulldogs through three quarters when they hosted Iota in a District 5-3A affair. Ultimately, foul shooting proved crucial for Iota in pulling away for a 51-38 win.

OPELOUSAS – The Sacred Heart Trojans were locked in a dogfight on the road Tuesday night against the Westminster Christian Crusaders. However, in a dogfight, the outfit with better weaponry usually wins out.

Rebounding in Mamou

MAMOU – After a rough showing in a 62-44 loss to Northwest last Friday night, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs were desperate to bounce back. They did so in a big way, forcing the Mamou Lady Demons to go ice cold with their shooting touch to take a 52-29 win Tuesday night on Mamou’s home floor.

Lady Bulldogs get raided on the road in Prairie Ronde

PRAIRIE RONDE – The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs hit the road last Friday, traveling to Northwest to play a District 5-3A game. The Lady Raiders used a 27-point fourth quarter where they outscored the Lady Bulldogs by 14 points to pull away, giving Ville Platte a 62-44 loss in district play.
