Basile gets back to basics after playoff bye, hosts Oberlin

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor BASILE – Postseason play is normally associated by fans with the unfamiliar. It’s the chance to travel to that far-flung town you’d never go to on your own accord. It’s that hole-in-the-wall, mom-and-pop establishment that only locals can direct you towards.

Hangin’ with Hayden

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor VILLE PLATTE – For all the talk of the Sacred Heart Trojans and the adversity they’ve faced all season, they quite literally had to weather the storm Friday night in the opening round of the Division IV select football playoffs.

Just in time

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor VILLE PLATTE – Nothing has come easy for the Sacred Heart Trojans in 2022. It’s been a season where they’ve been beat up, battered, worn down and have had to persevere through it all. It cannot be said that this Trojans team is short on grit.

Three’s allowed

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor DRY CREEK — The Basile Bearcats have been very familiar with playing close first half games most, if not all, of this 2022 season. Normally, their recipe would be to overwhelm and wear out their opponents with a rushing barrage on to yet another blowout win.

Hardware in sight

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor DERIDDER – The message has always been consistent for Basile football, and it’s a formula that works. One week at a time. Step by step. Brick by boring brick. The Bearcats have built a dominant season on a powerful run game and stifling defense.

Year of growth caps off with Oberlin visit for VPHS

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor VILLE PLATTE – Heading into 2022, Ville Platte head coach Roy Serie was ambitious. His goal was for his team to finish with a .500 record. That 5-5 record would’ve almost certainly had Serie in the conversation for his coaching abilities.

Healthy Homecoming the goal for SHS while under hurricane watch

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor VILLE PLATTE – Homecoming is normally about alumni, having a good time and reliving memories. And, if all goes well, your team gets the big win. It’s much bigger than that for Sacred Heart tomorrow night as it hosts North Central.
