Looking back at top sports stories of the year

Staff Report As another year draws to a close, the Ville Platte Gazette begins taking a look back at some of the top sports stories of the past year. February 29 Helen of Troy was the face that launched a thousand ships and rallied her troops against the fierce Spartan army.

Panthers earn a pair of home wins over Gueydan

By: TONY MARKS Editor Both Pine Prairie basketball teams picked up wins over Gueydan at home on Tuesday night. The Lady Panthers, with a 59-17 win, improved to 4-6 on the season and are winners of three of their last four games. They will play Basile tonight.

Lady Bulldogs stumble, fall against North Vermilion

By: TONY MARKS Editor After winning the parish basketball tournament, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs went 1-2 over the past three games. The team lost to Oakdale 62-36 before earning a 41-37 win over Beau Chene. The most recent loss came at home on Tuesday night against North Vermilion, 37-31.

Richard signs to take her game to Grambling

By: TONY MARKS Editor MAMOU - Jaidan Richard, who has made a name of herself on the high school level by playing softbal;l for Mamou High School, will now look to make a name of herself on the collegiate level after signing to play with Grambling State University.
In the left photo is the girls’ team which includes players Britelah Freeman, Yazmin Ardoin, Janiah Leday, Marlei Doucet, Aniyah James, Keanna Castille, Danasha Jack, Leah Clark, Cassie West, Brileyah Freeman, Raeosha Thomas, Toni Falkenberry, Kaitlyn Ferguson, Kadrionna Lewis, and Chauncey Tezeno.

Fontenot signs to play baseball with LSUA

By: TONY MARKS Editor PINE PRAIRIE - For the second consecutive season, Pine Prairie High School has produced a baseball player who signs to play college ball at LSUA. Last year, it was Cayden McCollough; this time around, it is Riley Fontenot.
