Sheriff shares more info on rejection of jail bids

By: TONY MARKS Editor After the bids for the construction of the new parish jail were rejected, and Sheriff Charles Guillory explained the decision was based on the lack of sub-contractors. According to the sheriff, there were originally three mechanical sub-contractors.

Charles is arrested for drive-by shooting

On Feb. 11, detectives responded to the intersection of LA 95 and Jake Lane in reference to a drive-by shooting. Once on the scene, it was discovered that multiple gunshots were fired and hit the victim's vehicle multiple times and almost struck the victim.

Minors are arrested in Mamou

On October 15, 2023, starting just after midnight the Mamou Police Department received multiple calls from private citizens and businesses about damage to property along the north side of the town. The complaints involved tire slashing and broken car windows.

Motorcyclist Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Evangeline Parish

Evangeline Parish – At approximately 11:45 p.m. on October 17, 2023, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Louisiana Highway 104 west of Lanse De Deshotel Rd. The crash took the life of 64-year-old Russell John Armond, Sr.

Pedestrian Killed on LA 10 in Evangeline Parish

Ville Platte – On October 13, 2023, shortly after 8:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 10 near Tiger Lane in Evangeline Parish. The crash claimed the life of 56-year-old Christopher A. Bellard of Ville Platte.

Number of VP murders this year reaches 11

The 11th murder of the year in Ville Platte took place on Friday, October 6, at the intersection of Martin Luther King Street and Court Street. Chief of Police Al Perry Thomas, at the city council meeting held Tuesday, said the murder was the result of a shooting.
