By: TONY MARKS LSN Sports Editor VILLE PLATTE- Two teams who both made it to the softball state tournament in Sulphur a season ago met up against each other, on Wednesday, April 9, as Sacred Heart hosted Oakdale.
The Sacred Heart Lady Trojan softball team is the district champion. Coaches are Will Pitre and Michelle Sonnier; and players are Abby Fontenot, Aida’lyse Johnson, Alyssa Brignac, Amelia Fontenot, Aubree Guillory, Averie Pitre, Breanna Ardoin, Ellie Wilmouth, Emily Ardoin, Emma Parrott, Jenna Veillon, Jolie Vidrine, Kora Lejeune, Lauryn Butter, Layla Fontenot, Maci Droddy, and Rose Ardoin. Sacred Heart softball team claims district crown

By: TONY MARKS Editor With a 5-1 win on the road, the Sacred Heart softball team earned the district crown in District 5-1A. The win, on Thursday, April 3, came against a Catholic-Pointe Coupee team that knocked the Lady Trojans out of the state tournament in Sulphur last season.

By: TONY MARKS Editor A week ago, today, the Mamou baseball team hosted Pine Prairie in a game with implications on the line for the district title. The Panthers entered the game at 10-5 overall and 3-1 in district, while the Green Demons were 11-7 and 2-1.

Two decades after capturing the Class 2A state championship, members of the 2005 Pine Prairie softball team returned for a pre-game celebration on Thursday, April 3, before the current team’s game against Buckeye. Highlighting the ceremony was Carolyn Deville throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
