CROWLEY - Taking to the field for the first time this season, the VPGSA 6U All-Stars proved that they will be a force to deal with, as they ran through the PONY Invitational Tournament this past weekend to bring home the championship trophy. In the tournament, Ville Platte went 4-0 and outscored their opponents 68-47.
With their first tournament title under their belts, the All-Stars will now travel to Broussard this coming weekend to participate in the PONY Sectionals.
“The girls had so much fun and really played hard all weekend long,” stated head coach Sadie Figueiredo. “I am so proud of what they have been able to accomplish in such a short time. We are looking forward to getting back on the field, and we are hoping to continue improving each and every time we play.”
Ville Platte picked up their first win over a tough Youngsville squad, scoring a 13-7 victory. The All-Stars struck first, knocking home four runs in their first at bat to take a 4-2 lead after one inning of play.
Ville Platte opened the lead up to 8-3 after the second inning. The two teams each notched four runs in the third inning, while the All-Stars completed the win by plating a solo run in the fourth inning.
Ville Platte turned around and secured a 12-8 win over Iowa in game two. The All-Stars found the plate four times in each of their three at bats and held Iowa to only two runs in two out of three innings of play.
A marathon seven inning affair brought a 27-26 win over Youngsville in game three. Ville Platte and the Lafayette parish squad exchanged runs like two heavyweights exchanging blows throughout the first six innings of play, as each team plated four runs in every one of those innings. The final inning saw Ville Platte outscore Youngsville 3-2 to secure the win.
Game four was another offensive masterpiece for the All-Stars, as they ran roughshod over Iowa for the second time in a 16-6 victory. Ville Platte picked up four runs in all four at bats and held Iowa scoreless in the third inning of play.
