KAPLAN -- The VPGSA 10U Fast-Pitch All-Stars picked up some valuable playing time and deep seeded respect this past weekend, as they rode their way to a third place finish in the PONY Sectional Tournament.
Ville Platte will now take that time and respect and bring it to Eunice this coming weekend as they compete at the PONY Regional Tournament beginning tomorrow. The All-Stars will play their first game in that tournament on Friday at 12 p.m. against Lake Arthur and at 3 p.m. against Eunice.
In their first game of the tournament, Ville Platte tagged Youngsville with an 8-1 defeat. The All-Stars opened a 3-1 lead after one inning of play and finished the game off with a single run in the second and four runs in the third.
Game two gave Ville Platte a reason to smile, as they pasted Eunice 10-0. The All-Stars batted around in the first inning, picking up six huge runs and topped the game off with four more runs in the third inning.
All phases of the game continued to click in the third game for Ville Platte as they blew apart Deridder 10-0. The All-Stars began the game with a five run first inning.
Ville Platte then added two more runs in the second inning and tacked on three runs in their final at bat to secure the shut out win.
The combination of cold bats and great pitching from North Vermilion caused Ville Platte to take their first loss of the tournament in their next contest. The All-Stars could not find away to put a run across the plate, as they fell 1-0 to the Vermilion Parish based team.
Ville Platte rebounded on offense in their final game of the tournament. However, it would not be enough as Kaplan secured an 8-4 win over the All-Stars.
The game started off evenly matched as the two teams exchanged runs in the first inning. Kaplan was one run better in the second inning and forged ahead 4-2 after two innings of play. Kaplan finished off the game with a 4-2 advantage in the final inning of play.
