Ville Platte unable to overcome talented Notre Dame; loses third district contest

VILLE PLATTE -- It was all Notre Dame High School Friday night, as the No. 1 team in Division II rolled past the Ville Platte Bulldogs 49-0 in a District 6-2A contest.
With the loss, Ville Platte dropped to 2-7 on the season and 0-3 in district play. The Bulldogs will host Ascension Christian Friday night for homecoming.
After the teams exchanged possessions to open the game, Notre Dame’s Noah Bourgeios hauled in a Ville Platte punt at his 33-yard line and scampered past the Bulldog special teams on his way to a 67-yard touchdown return. John William Lamb secured the extra point, and, with 9:38 to go in the first quarter, Notre Dame held a 7-0 lead.
Stopping the Bulldogs on their next possession, the Pioneers took over once again. Over the next 2:25 Notre Dame put together a four play drive that resulted in a C.J. Thibodeaux one yard run for a touchdown. Lamm added the point after, giving the Pioneers a 14-0 with 5:58 to go in the first quarter.
Unfortunately for Ville Platte, Notre Dame was not done putting points up on the board in the first quarter. With 1:02 left in the period, Bourgeois plunged his way in from one yard out. Lamm tacked on the extra point, extending the Pioneer lead to 21-0 with 1:32 to go in the opening period.
Notre Dame would add to their lead in the second quarter, picking up two more touchdowns. The first, a 23 yard pass from Ben Broussard to Thomas Bellard gave the Pioneers a 28 point lead. The second, a Barrett Harrington 17 yard reception from Broussard increased the Notre Dame lead to 35-0 as the two teams headed into the locker room.
The Pioneers put up their final two scores in the third quarter. Thibodeaux crossed the goal line from three yards out with 8:08 to go and Walt Thibodeaux sprinted his way into the end zone from 10 yards out with 21 seconds left on the clock.
Ville Platte’s Jahmal Byers rushed for 53 yards on eight carries to lead the Bulldogs offensively.
