VILLE PLATTE -- Scoring on every possession of the game but one, the Lake Arthur Tigers blasted past the Ville Platte Bulldogs 61-12 Friday night.
With the loss, Ville Platte dropped to 2-4 on the year and 0-1 in District 6-2A play. The Bulldogs will travel to Kinder this Friday to take on the Yellow Jackets in their second league game of the season.
“We just missed too many tackles on the defensive side of the ball,” stated Ville Platte assistant coach Dee Arvie. “Offensively, we could not sustain any type of drive. We have a number of injuries right now and that is forcing us to play a lot of players both ways. Because these guys are having to be on the field all the time it takes a toll on us.”
It did not take the Tigers long to establish the flow of the game. Holding the Bulldogs to a four-and-out on the first possession of the game, Lake Arthur got the ball at the Ville Platte 24-yard line following five yard punt.
On their very first play of the game, running back Torrell Levias broke loose for a 24 yard touchdown scamper. Chance Broussard booted the extra point through the uprights and with only 2:45 gone in the first quarter, the Tigers led 7-0.
An on-side kick by Lake Arthur bounced off of a Ville Platte player and the Tigers came away with the football at the Bulldog 45-yard line. Two plays later, wing back Daylon Charles scampered around right end for a 36 yard touchdown run. The extra point was good off of the foot of Broussard, giving Lake Arthur a 14-0 lead with 8:24 to go in the quarter.
Another punt by Ville Platte on its next possession set the Tigers up at their 43-yard line. Four runs and a completed pass later, Lake Arthur found themselves at the Bulldog 14-yard line.
Levias took the handoff on second down and bowled his way in from 14-yards out for his second touchdown on the night. The extra point attempt was no good. However with 4:27 to go in the first quarter, Lake Arthur owned a 20-0 lead.
Unfortunately for Ville Platte that was not the end of the scoring for the Tigers in the opening period. Another short punt from the Bulldogs set Lake Arthur up at the Ville Platte 46-yard line.
Three plays later, Tory Levias blasted his way in from six yards out to add to the Tiger lead. Once again the extra point was no good, leaving the score 26-0 in favor of Lake Arthur with 1:17 to go in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs were finally able to get points on the scoreboard early on in the second quarter. Starting at the midfield stripe to begin their next possession, Ville Platte got the ball down to the Tiger 39-yard line.
On third-and-ten, Ville Platte quarterback Terrian Roy connected with wide out Tyler Jones on a slant pass that Jones took in for the touchdown. The two point pass was no good, making it a 26-6 ballgame with 10:43 left in the period.
Lake Arthur did not flinch. The Tigers picked up where they left off in the first quarter, driving
