Ville Platte picks up big district win

LAKE ARTHUR -- The Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs blew open a 7-1 lead, scoring 11 runs in their last two at bats to pick up an 18-1 win over the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, Ville Platte improves to 2-1 on the year and is now 1-0 in District 6-2A play. The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to play Elizabeth on the road Friday.
Ville Platte did not get on the board in the top of the first inning, but they did collect two runs in the top of the second inning. Jenna Smith tripled to lead things off for the Lady Bulldogs.
Alyssa Soileau doubled home Smith and reached third on a fielder’s choice. A strike out followed keeping Soileau at third with two outs. Shyanne Mayer picked up a big two out single, plating Mayer for the second run of the inning.
Ville Platte tacked on another run in the top of the fourth inning. Destiny Lavigne walked, reached second on a fielder’s choice and scooted home on a triple from Madison Monier.
The Lady Bulldogs put up four more runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Hailey Bordelon singled to start the inning and moved to third on back-to-back fielder’s choices.
Hanna Monier singled home Bordelon and stole second base. Lavigne reached first after getting hit by a pitch. Monier and Lavigne moved up a bag on another steal. A passed ball plated Monier and pushed Lavigne to third base.
Kenderlyn Doucet doubled home Lavigne and came across the plate on Madison Monier’s double to center field to finish out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs.
A two-run blast off of the bat of Hanna Monier gave Ville Platte another two runs in the top of the fifth inning.
The Lady Bulldogs closed out the run-rule win by collecting nine more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Smith, Josey Ardoin, Doucet, and Madison Monier all singled, while Bordelon tripled to aid in the scoring for Ville Platte.
Lake Arthur’s only run came in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Hanna Monier picked up the win for the Lady Bulldogs on the mound, going five and two-thirds innings. Monier gave up eight hits, struck out three and walked two. Ardoin finished the game for Monier and gave up one run on one hit.
Smith led all Ville Platte batters, going 4 for 4 with a triple. Hanna Monier was 3 for 4 with three RBI. Doucet went 3 for 5 with three RBI.
