Ville Platte ousted from 2A playoffs

RAYVILLE -- It was a tough night both offensively and defensively for the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs as they dropped a 77-31 decision to the Rayville Lady Hornets in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs Thursday night.
With the loss, Ville Platte ends their year with an overall record of 11-18. Rayville advances on to the second round and will host Ferriday.
“We knew coming in the game tonight, it would not be easy for us,” stated Ville Platte head coach Dot Doulet. “Rayville is a good team and they deserved the win tonight. It has been an up and down season for us, but I am proud of the way this team continued to improve all year long. We are young and hopefully we can take what we have learned this year and bring it with us next season.”
Ville Platte made their presence known in the first quarter, picking up 10 points behind the combined eight point effort from Trinity Leday and Tahjalyn Jack. Rayville managed to score 18 points in that same period to take the eight point lead.
The difference in the game came the second quarter. Behind a concerted defensive effort the Lady Hornets blew past the Lady Bulldogs, earning a 28-4 edge in the period to take a 46-14 lead into the locker room.
The third quarter was no different for the two teams. Rayville out scored Ville Platte 19-8 in the period to open up their lead by 43 points.
Jack led the way for Ville Platte with nine points. Leday chipped in seven points for the Lady Bulldogs.
