Ville Platte High splits district tilts with Iota

VILLE PLATTE -- The Ville Platte Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs hosted the Iota Bulldogs and Lady Dogs Monday night. Each team put on exciting back and forth games, but ultimately the Lady Bulldogs fell 59-47, while the Bulldogs won 74-62.
With the loss the Lady Bulldogs fall to 14-14 on the season and 4-5 in district contests. They will travel to Church Point tonight for their final game of the season
With their win, the Bulldogs improve to 21-10 and 7-1 in district play.
The Lady Bulldogs hit the court first and had a pretty rough start. The two teams seemed evenly matched, but Ville Platte was unable to keep up with Iota’s relentless pace. One after another, Iota lit up the scoreboard, while Ville Platte struggled to muster up a response. At the end of the first period, Iota held a 12-5 lead.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Alyssa Fontenot and Vandryua Wilson, Ville Platte crawled back into contention in the second period. Fontenot pumped out eight points and Wilson added seven, all within the span of 2:30.
Still, Iota was able to hold a lead, albeit a rather small one, 27-23 as both teams geared up for the second half.
Villle Platte shot out of the gate quickly in the third period. They were able to tie things up for the first time in the game, at 29-29 with 5:40 remaining in the period.
Iota recuperated after allowing Ville Platte to battle back, and kicked things into second gear. Iota was able to outscore Ville Platte 13-5, bringing their lead to 42-32 heading into the last period.
Unfortunately for Ville Platte, the Lady Bulldogs were unable to recreate their success in the fourth period, and Iota was able to match Ville Platte score for score, closing out the game in disappointing fashion for VIlle Platte.
The Bulldogs were up next, and Ville Platte seemed to be surprised at the tenacity Iota showed right from the start. Iota quickly drove home five points unanswered with just 6:40 on the clock, taking the arena by surprise. Ville Platte realized they were playing too relaxed, and answered back with five of their own. After that, Ville Platte quickly found their groove, and closed out the period on top 10-9.
Ville Platte took complete control of the game in the second period, driving the ball up and down the court over and over, running circles around the Iota squad. The Ville Platte advantage sat at 40-28 as both teams headed into the locker rooms.
Iota desperately tried to keep up, but Ville Platte continued their dominance throughout the third period. Ville Platte’s momentum was continuing to pick up and their accuracy was also very apparent in the third period, as they hit six three-pointers in a row. Ville Platte’s lead grew to 62-41 going into the fourth period.
After sending in their back ups, Ville Platte allowed Iota to close the gap, but Ville Platte was still able to keep the lead in the double digits, ending the night on a high note.
Tyler Jones and Tye’Wuan Byers each had 18 points to lead Ville Platte in scoring for the night.
