RAGLEY -- Complete and total domination.
That is all that can be said about the Ville Platte Dixie Youth Minor All-Star’s play at the District 7 tournament this past weekend.
Ville Platte did not just sweep through the competition, they also made sure that their opponents did not even come close enough to make it a game. In the five wins it took to take home the district title, the All-Stars out produced the teams they faced 81-11.
The first win came last Thursday when Ville Platte took down Mamou 19-0. The domination for the All-Stars continued on Friday with a 15-4 victory over Vernon National.
In that game, Ville Platte actually fell behind 4-2 after the first inning of play. The All-Stars regrouped and produced two more runs in the fourth inning. The big at-bat for Ville Platte came in the fifth inning when the All-Stars managed to pound out 11 more runs to put away Vernon National.
Saturday’s action was cancelled due to weather conditions. When the tournament resumed on Sunday, Ville Platte did not miss a beat as they took down Oakdale 16-3 to advance on in the winner’s bracket.
Against Oakdale, the All-Stars wasted no time in establishing who the best team was, scoring seven runs in the first inning. After blanking Oakdale in the bottom of the first, Ville Platte poured it on some more, plating eight more runs in the top of the second inning.
Oakdale picked up a single run in the bottom half of the inning, but the damage was already done. Ville Platte added its final run in the third inning, while Oakdale scored its last runs in the bottom of the third.
A combined no hitter allowed Ville Platte to blow past Vernon National on Monday 13-3 in a re-match of Friday’s contest. The All-Stars picked up their runs after pounding out 10 hits in 25 at bats.
Ville Platte opened up a 6-3 lead over Vernon National after the first inning of play. Following a scoreless second inning, the All-Stars blasted home six more runs in the top of the third inning to open up a nine run advantage. A solo run by Ville Platte in the fourth inning completed the scoring and the win.
The All-Stars then found themselves pitted against intra-parish rivals from Pine Prairie in the championship game. After the first inning of play, it looked like it might be a pretty good contest, as the two teams each plated a single run.
However, Ville Platte was not going to let Pine Prairie spoil its undefeated season, as the All-Stars blew up the scoreboard with 17 runs in the bottom of the second inning.
In the game Ville Platte pounded out seven hits and held Pine Prairie hitless. In fact, Pine Prairie only got three base runners in the run-rule win for Ville Platte.
