VILLE PLATTE -- History was made when the Ville Platte Dixie Youth organization fielded a 7U All-Star team this summer.
So, now every accomplishment from these young “boys in blue” becomes history made.
That was the case this past weekend when the All-Stars took down all competition in route to a District 7 Championship.
Ville Platte not only took home the ultimate prize, they also were handed the sportsmanship trophy; another first for Ville Platte as well as a first for head coach David Lahaye.
The road to the title began in earnest on Friday afternoon. Ville Platte began the double elimination tournament with a 13-1 win over cross-parish rival Pine Prairie. In that game, the All-Stars surrendered the only run Pine Prairie would score in the top of the first inning.
Ville Platte then answered with seven runs of their own in the bottom half of the first. The All-Stars were unable to put up a run in the bottom of the second inning. However, Ville Platte got the bats going again in the bottom of the third when they plated their final six runs of the game.
Ville Platte moved into the winner’s bracket and a showdown with Derrider on Saturday. In that contest, the All-Stars needed all six innings to take down the Beauregard Parish squad 10-7.
Ville Platte trailed 3-1 after one inning of play and 3-2 after the second complete inning. But, the All-Stars managed to put together seven runs over the next two at bats to go up 9-5. They finished off Deridder with a single run in the top of the sixth.
The win over Deridder put Ville Platte in the championship game on Sunday against Oakdale. It was here that the All-Stars proved their worth as they slid past Oakdale 8-4 for the title.
Ville Platte held Oakdale to single runs in four of the six innings played, while they put up crooked numbers in three trips to the plate. The All-Stars owned a 3-1 lead after one inning, scored a single run in the third and two runs in each of the remaining innings to pull away from Oakdale.
