Ville Platte Dixie Youth 12U, 10U All-Stars take home sub-district title

VILLE PLATTE -- Despite having to fight off the rain on Sunday afternoon, the Ville Platte Major (12U) All-Stars made the most of their appearance in the Dixie Youth District 7 East Sub-District Tournament by going undefeated and keeping the title at home.
Ville Platte advances on to the district tournament to be held in Mamou beginning on Thursday, June 27. As of press time, brackets for that tournament had not been released.
As reported in Sunday’s edition, Ville Platte took the first step toward the tourney title on Thursday when they routed Oakdale 11-5. The All-Stars took step two on Friday afternoon with a solid 11-1 win over Mamou.
Ville Platte started the game on the right foot, blanking Mamou in the top of the first inning. The All-Stars then responded by pushing seven runs across the plate in the bottom half of the inning.
John Michael Duplechin got things rolling by singling with one out. Jude Hebert followed with a single of his own.
A single by Jackson Bruney after a ground out and a walk issued to Tristan Mayeux would help put runs on the board. Zac Fontenot would also single in his at bat. Duplechin, Hebert, Bruney, Mayeux, Fontenot, Lafluer and Kaigon Combs all reached home plate in the inning.
Mamou picked up their only run of the game in the top of the second inning when BJ Foreman doubled and scored. Ville Platte did not plate any more runs until the bottom of the fourth when William Jordan and Dane Lejeune would each touch the plate.
The All-Stars secured their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Hebert and Gabe Fontenot came in to score to seal the run-rule win.
On Saturday, Ville Platte had to endure two games in the double round robin format. Game one saw the All-Stars scatter runs across four innings to take a 15-0 win over Pine Prairie.
Ville Platte put up three runs in the top of the first and added four more runs in the top of the second to move out to a 7-0 lead. The All-Stars plated three runs in the top of the third and finished out the contest by putting up five runs in the top of the fourth inning.
A rematch with Oakdale faced Ville Platte in game two on Saturday. The All-Stars continued their hot start by knocking down Oakdale for a second time in an 8-0 win.
Ville Platte pushed two runs across in their very first at bat of the contest. John Michael Duplechin and Gabe Fontenot each singled, while Duplechin and Hebert each crossed home plate.
In the top of the second inning, Ville Platte expanded their lead by one run, as Zac Fontenot scored on a single by Jordan after reaching first base on a hit by pitch.
