Ville Platte boys, girls take home third place finishes

PRAIRIE RHONDE -- After three days of hard fought basketball, the Ville Platte boy’s and girl’s basketball teams both took home third place finishes in the rough and tumble Northwest Raider Holiday tournament.
On Saturday, the Ville Platte Bulldogs gave everything they had on the court, but came up just short in the end as they fell to the Lafayette Christian Knights in overtime. Ville Platte rebounded on Sunday by sliding past the Northside Vikings in the third place game.
The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs used their big win over Westgate on Friday to propel them to a over East Ibberville Saturday afternoon. However, the Lady Bulldogs came out very sluggish on Sunday in the third place game and fell for the second time in the tournament to Opelousas.
Here is a re-cap of those games played.

LCA (B) vs. Ville Platte
Lafayette Christian got off to a better start in the contest out gaining the Bulldogs 18-7 in the first quarter. Ville Platte rebounded by taking a 21-9 advantage in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs stayed hot in the third quarter and led 47-38 as the horn sounded to end the period. However, the Knights produced a 27-14 run in the last 12 minutes of the game, including overtime to take the 63-61 win.

Northside (B)
vs. Ville Platte
Northside led 18-11 after two quarters of play, but the Bulldogs rallied in the final two quarters to take a 50-45 win over the Vikings.

E. Iberville (G)
vs. Ville Platte
Ville Platte scored only eight points in the first quarter to trail 14-8. The second period, however, belonged to Ville Platte as they outscored the Lady Tigers 10-6 to trail by two at the half.
Ville Platte lost the third quarter 10-9 but the Lady Bulldogs blew past East Iberville 19-9 in the final quarter to take the 46-39 win.

Opelousas (G)
vs. Ville Platte
Ville Platte scored just eight points in the entire first half on their way to a 42-30 loss to Opelousas.
