Ville Platte boys and girls take wins; Mamou cruises

Both the Ville Platte High baseball and softball teams took to the diamond this past week and each came away with big non-district wins.
Meanwhile the Mamou Demons and the Lady Demons each picked up key district wins on Tuesday.
Across the parish, the Pine Prairie Panthers fell for the second time in two days in league play.
Here is a rundown of games played around the parish.

Ville Platte (B)
vs. St. Joe’s (DH)
This past Friday, the Ville Platte Bulldogs secured their first two wins of the season, posting doubleheader victories over the St. Joe’s Eagles in Plaucheville.
Game one saw Ville Platte fall behind 2-0 after one inning of play. The Bulldogs cut the lead in half in the second inning, plating a single run.
Ville Platte blew the game wide open in the third, scoring six runs. The Bulldogs added four more in the fourth and three more in the sixth to roll to a 14-3 win.
In game two, Ville Platte and St. Joe’s found themselves deadlocked at 0-0 after two innings of play. The Bulldogs finally found some offense in the third inning, scoring five runs.
Ville Platte tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning to seal an 8-0 win.
With the two wins, Ville Platte improves to 2-10 on the season. The Bulldogs will host Welsh today at 4:30 in a district contest.

Ville Platte (S)
vs. Peabody
The Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs took no prisoners Tuesday afternoon, as they blasted the Peabody Lady War Horses 27-0.
Ville Platte now moves to 7-6 on the year. The Lady Bulldogs host Welsh in a league game today at the Ville Platte Sports Complex. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
Ville Platte slammed the door shut on Peabody early in the game, scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning. The Lady Bulldogs followed that up with nine runs in the top of the second to go up 16-0.
The Lady War Horses notched a run in the bottom half of the inning. However, Ville Platte responded by plating seven more runs in the top of the third.
After Peabody managed to secure two runs in the bottom of the third, Ville Platte closed out the win with three more runs in the fourth.

Mamou (B) vs. Crowley
The Mamou Demons improved to 7-12 on the year and 3-4 in district play with a 7-3 win over the Crowley Gents Tuesday afternoon.
After a scoreless first inning, Mamou took control, picking up three runs over their next two at bats.
Crowley tied the game back up, plating two runs in the top of the fourth and another run in the top of the fifth. But the Demons would not be denied as Tanner Atchinson blasted a grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.

Mamou (S) vs.
Church Point
The Mamou Lady Demons picked up a much needed district win Tuesday afternoon, as they blew past the Church Point Lady Bears 15-0 in a four inning run-rule win.
Mamou improves to 15-8 on the year and 9-4 in district play with the victory. The Lady Demons host to Northwest today in their final league contest. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
Mamou showed no mercy, scoring nine runs in the first inning. The Lady Demons plated single runs in the second and third innings and followed that up with four more runs in the fourth.

Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Eunice
The Pine Prairie Panthers fell to 10-12 on the season and 4-3 in district play with an 8-0 loss to the Eunice Bobcats Tuesday afternoon.
