Head coach Ed Orgeron and his LSU football team got a Christmas present that will bear fruit for the next four to five years.
On Christmas Day, the nation’s top cornerback recruit in the Class of 2020 Elias Ricks announced his intentions to wear the purple and gold of LSU.
The native of Santa Ana, Calif., is a five-star recruit coming out of Mater Dei High School.
Ricks, the number nine overall recruit in the country and had other offers from such top programs as Alabama, Southern California, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, and Michigan.
If Ricks does end up officially signing his letter of intent, it would mean LSU inked the top cornerback in the country for the second consecutive year.
Commitments, such as the one from Ricks, are not officially binding. The earliest Ricks’ intent can become official is next December when he signs his letter of intent.
The news came a week before the LSU football team competes in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., against University of Central Florida. It is the Tigers’ first bowl appearance west of the state of Texas.
