In a Tuesday night Ville Platte Girl’s Softball Association 10U game, the Thunder collected seven hits in an impressive 11-4 win over the Eclipse.
Scoring for the Thunder began in the top of the first inning. Abby Fontenot drew the lead off walk and scored on a single from Jenna Veillon and a series of throwing errors as the ball tried to reach the infield.
Those errors not only scored Fontenot but also put Veillon on third base. Aida-Lyse Johnson picked Veillon up with a single of her own.
Johnson stole second base and reached third on a ground ball out to the shortstop. A wild pitch later and Johnson touched home plate for the third run of the inning, giving the Thunder the early lead.
In the bottom of the first, the Eclipse proved that they were not going away easily. With one out, Emma Parrot reached on an error by the catcher.
Parrott stole second and reached third on a wild pitch. Morgan Tezeno singled home Parrot and motored her way to home plate when the left fielder let the ball get past her.
Angel Tezeno followed that by drawing a walk. Tezeno moved to second on a wild pitch and then tied the game up at 3-3 when she touched the plate following an error by the first baseman.
Over the next two innings the game belonged to the Thunder. In the top of the second inning, the Thunder produced four more runs, with Veillon, Johnson and Juliet Fontenot all collecting base hits.
After shutting down the Eclipse in the bottom of the second inning, the Thunder added four more runs in the top of the third inning.
The Eclipse’s final run came in the bottom of the third inning.
