Sacred Heart hopes to stay on winning path against Rosepine

Momentum is a strange thing.
Everyone fights to get it and once a team has it, they try everything to keep it.
After their inspiring 20-0 win over the Basile Bearcats this past Friday night, the Sacred Heart Trojans will definitely be one of those teams that plans on fighting to keep the momentum established in that win.
“The win over Basile was huge for us,” stated Sacred Heart head coach Josh Harper. “You hate to say it only after playing two games, but that was a very pivotal win for us. A loss could have sent our season spirling out of control. But, the players responded when their backs were against the wall.”
No doubt, Sacred Heart (1-2) will need every ounce of momentum as they host one of the toughest teams in Class 2A, the 1-2 Rosepine Eagles. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
According to Harper, fans and his players should not take Rosepine lightly just because of their record. The two loses the Eagles have come against Mangham and South Beauregard, two quality football programs.
“Rosepine is a very physical team,” said Harper. “They lost a few from last season, but have replaced them with some talented players. Their base on offense is the I-formation, but they have been going to the spread a little more this season. It will be a big test for us this week for sure.”
In the win over Basile, Sacred Heart only led 7-0 at the half. So, when the Trojans went into the locker room, Harper and his staff talked about how to best adjust in the second half to give his team a chance to pull out the contest.
What they came up with was a simple as pie.
“When we went in at halftime against Basile, the coaches got together and came to an agreement that we needed to go back to basics in the second half, and that is what we did,” commented Harper. “We realized that we just have to be good at what we do. At the start of the season, we thought that we could do some things formation wise and scheme wise to add to our packages.”
“But, we have come to understand that this group just needs to focus on what we have alway done the best and that is run the ball in our single wing formation,” Harper continued. “That does not mean that we cannot tweak things from time to time, but for now we want to stay in our zone.”
With that said, Sacred Heart, who had thrown the ball 29 times in their first two games of the year, only attempted four passes in the Basile game. In contrast the Trojans rushed the ball 41 times against the Bearcats, a number more befitting the successful Sacred Heart teams of the past four years.
