Ville Platte High’s Terrian Roy reached a huge milestone in his basketball career, as they senior point guard picked up his 1,000th point in a game played a few weeks ago.
Roy, a first team all-district and all-parish selection a year ago, helped lead the Bulldogs to a Class 2A semi-final appearance and has Ville Platte on the verge of making the Class 3A playoffs this season.
The three sport athlete has always had the dream of reaching such a goal, even though he did not believe it could actually happen.
“I didn’t really know if it would be possible to accomplish something like this, but it has always been in my mind to get it done and I am glad that I was able to accomplish it,” stated Roy.
To score that many points in a career is hard to do, simply because of the outside factors that play into one person getting the opportunity to accomplish that goal. For Roy, reaching this goal came down to one main factor; hard work.
“I have always been taught to work hard and to chase the things you want the most,” said Roy. “My coaches and my teammates were a big part of me getting to this point. They have always believed in me. If it were not for them, I could not have been able to get this honor.”
Roy understands that this is his last year in a Bulldog uniform. The humble point guard knows that all of the time put into the gym over the years comes down to one last push to collect the ultimate prize.
“My parents pushed me hard ever since I was little, and now it is paying off,” commented Roy. “I just have one more goal to reach before I leave Ville Platte High, and that is to win a state championship. Hopefully we can get that done this year.”
Speaking of Roy and his teammates, the Bulldogs were in action on Saturday and picked up a huge win over the North Central Hurricanes.
In that game, Ville Platte jumped out to a 17-15 lead after one quarter of play, with eight of those points coming from free throws, including Tyler Jones’ five for five effort.
The Bulldogs produced a dominating 23-8 second quarter, as Tye’Wuan Byers hit for seven points including a three-point basket. That quarter proved to be the definitive quarter, as Ville Platte cruised the rest of the way to a 74-59 win.
