As he enters his senior year as quarterback of McNeese State University, senior James Tabary was listed as one of 36 athletes on the 2018 College Football Performance Awards Watch List for the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.
The New Orleans native is set to break every career passing record at the university. He enters this season with, according to reports, 5,547 career passing yards (sixth all-time), 44 passing touchdowns (fourth all-time), 448 completions (sixth all-time), and 768 pass attempts (seventh all-time).
Also, according to reports, Tabary needs 2,679 passing yards to become the school’s career record holder, as well as 24 touchdown tosses.
Tabary and the rest of the Cowboys broke full camp with a scrimmage that was held Saturday, August 18.
“I thought we did some better things on offense,” said head coach Lance Guidry. “But we’re still not where we need to be. Defensively, I think we’re very close.”
Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette reported, “The first two defensive teams recorded four sacks in the first six non-live plays of the scrimmage but the offense came back two series later with the No. 3 unit scoring on a 55-yard TD pass-catch by quarterback Cam Smith to Tre Roberts. The play was whistled dead before it ended but Roberts easily would’ve reached the end zone.”
The Cowboys will hold one final practice before beginning the 2018 season on the road against Northern Colorado on September 1.
